Pros
High pay for the area, but not worth the fear culture.
Cons
Livent is no longer FMC and has a safety culture that is toxic. Safety is important in a business, but this place has created a safety program that kills morale and makes accomplishing jobs almost impossible, while doing nothing to make the processes safer. It is only a administrative Band-Aid. There is a mountain of paperwork that takes as long to complete as the job does. This is to make sure any incident can be thoroughly investigated, but does nothing to curtail the incidents. The company uses Avetta to vet contractors and there-by cutting out small-town local business owners from winning contracts on the site. This does not support the local economy. Livent EH&S treats first-aid issues like OSHA recordable injuries. This process causes employees to fear reporting minor injuries. When something does happen employees face harsh discipline for a possible injury that may not be their fault. There was a process engineer that suffered a very severe laceration to the knee which should have required a trip to the Emergency Department at a local hospital and a surgical cleaning before receiving sutures. Management was so afraid of reporting the injury to Corporate and logging an OSHA recordable that the employee was only treated at the company aid station by a nurse who was not qualified to render the treatment. The employee was advised, after the injury was shown to an ER Physician, to immediately seek secondary medical treatment to avoid complications, but Livent management threatened the employee and the EH&S department if it was reported. Areas of the plant are literally falling apart and are unsafe to walk on, through, or around from concrete being eroded by the chemicals in the atmosphere of the plant. The main production plant could fall into the ground at anytime from sink holes that are forming under the flooring. If this happens there will be an environmental disaster that Besser City will not recover from due to the volatility of the PSM facility. It is known that if there was a fire or explosion it would take out multiple city blocks. There are fires at the facility weekly, but since there is a fire department on site it never gets reported. There is a closed door policy about sexual activity with the office and management staff. It is known that closed doors typically mean either staff is sleeping, or engaging in sexual activity. Don't spend too much time inside of the main production plant without at least an N100 respirator, and don't plan on Livent doing any fit testing or requiring the same. A few days in there and your lungs are shot! Don't be the employee working there when the main plant falls into the ground.
