Pros

I've had a great experience working on the Account Executive and Account Management team here at Localwise. Product: There are consistent improvements and additions on the Localwise site that come at a rapid pace, and it makes the sales side very exciting. We're able to regularly bring good news regarding product updates to our clients whenever we speak with them, and most find the site very easy to use. Helping the site transform from a basic job posting board to a social network has been one of the most satisfying parts of this job. Job seekers and employers are communicative with their feedback, and I typically feel like they consider Localwise to be a partner, rather than a vendor. Team: The non-technical team is tightly knit, and the work atmosphere and culture is collaborative and team-oriented. I've found that everyone here is competitive, but in a way that tends to breed personal growth. The technical team is first-rate, and are communicative and responsive to the non-tech team. This is very different than my previous experience with dev teams. Leadership: CEO and leadership team will take the time to hear you out and take your feedback, while giving theirs in a constructive way. It always feels like we're building something meaningful. They focus a good amount on mission and big-picture in our group, so you won't forget why you're here.

Cons

Like any startup, you need to wear a lot of hats, so it's not a perfect fit for everyone.

Pros

As an intern at Localwise, I managed the Twitter page and executed other marketing tasks, including the whiteboard campaign featuring local owners/employees and Cal students. Because of the experience, I learned how to utilize social media management tools, practice photography and design, and become more comfortable talking to students and business owners alike. A great thing about startup culture is the ability to be in control of your own projects: if you have an interesting or creative idea, Ben and Maya are very enthusiastic about incorporating it into how Localwise runs. You get to execute it from start to finish, and the process makes you feel really valued as a member of the Localwise team. One aspect I wasn't used to as an intern elsewhere was the open communication with your bosses. 1 on 1 meetings felt more like peer discussions rather than me + scary manager. My favorite part about working at Localwise was learning about all the local businesses in the East Bay. Although I've been a student in Berkeley for two years already, it wasn't until I was an intern that I realized how little I had been exploring the local community and all it had to offer. It was fun to stay on top of new business/restaurant openings and what local festivals were happening this weekend. Another cool thing about my experience was seeing and being a part of Localwise's evolution. There's been so much growth since I first started, and I can't wait to see more.

Cons

Although there's some collaboration between interns, I didn't really get to know the rest of the team.
