"Woke HR department" Hi, my name is Tracy Simek, Chief People Officer at Locus Robotics, and I approve this message.
However, using the term "woke" as a pejorative undermines the real and measurable benefits of diversity, equity, and inclusion in workplaces and communities. Dismissing these values with a politically loaded term ignores the fact that diverse teams are more innovative, more profitable, and better at solving complex problems. Studies from McKinsey and Harvard Business Review consistently show that organizations with greater diversity outperform their peers in financial performance and employee satisfaction. What is referred to as “woke” is, in reality, a commitment to fairness, opportunity, and representation that drives success for our business. Reducing it to a slur does a disservice not only to those striving for equity but also to the organizations and societies that benefit from it.
At Locus Robotics, what some dismissively label as "woke" is simply our commitment to doing what is right: supporting equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all. We've always offered full benefits for domestic partners, and provide an environment of respect, safety and acceptance for all, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or age. We have explicit non-discrimination policies in our work and hiring practices, provide gender-neutral facilities in all of our offices and provide safe reporting mechanisms through our whistleblower hotline and internal processes. Through the Locus Robotics Foundation's work supporting educational opportunities and success in our local communities, and initiatives like our Juneteenth donations and Pride Month partnerships, we invest in communities that have historically been underserved, helping to unlock potential and create pathways to meaningful careers. These efforts strengthen our culture, drive innovation, and reflect the values that make Locus a great place to work. Far from a buzzword, our version of “woke” delivers measurable impact and lasting value to our employees' lives, our communities and our success as a company.
Lastly, to this specific employee: if you have concerns about the issues you raised as cons, my door is always open for you. Please reach out to me, or anyone on the HR team, to discuss any of these issues at any time.
