Pros

Since it is a small organization, you will get experience in a lot of job functions. A lot of people have faith and trust in the new Executive Director. The organization has a lot of flexibility in terms of work time.

Cons

The pay was really low, especially considering the high cost of living in the Long Beach/LA metropolitan area. Colleagues have described the culture as "toxic". I saw 3 of my colleagues in tears during my time there. I would expect this from a stressful high pressure job on Wall Street, not from a mid-sized arts non-profit. The organization has a very big turnover problem. 4 managing directors in 3 years. In the 1 year I was there, 7 people left. The organization only has about 8 full time employees. Every time someone announced they were leaving, they visibly became happier. For about 1/2 a year, all department heads, (Production head, Development head, Marketing head, and the Education head and the Managing Director) were either "Interim" or were "part-time."
