Pros

Great coworkers who really want to help patients, decent facilities. Luckily, they are still pretty generous with opportunities within the hospital (clinical ladder, paying you for non-mandatory training, transferring within, etc.). Pay is actually very good, although health insurance is ridiculously expensive.

Cons

Upper nursing and medical management (who control everything without asking anyone's opinion) only care about numbers. I get how that is very important but the hospital is losing nurses left and right and morale is very low right now. Every unit is short nurses and with a large proportion of new graduates, which is unsafe. The ED is an absolute travesty- they are always extremely short staffed and many nurses do not know how to care for critically ill patients. I'd be afraid to go to my own ED.

Thank you for your comment. It is true that health care organizations throughout the country are undergoing tremendous change, which includes managing a changing group and number of healthcare candidates. As you mention, we continue to provide much support to our current nursing staff with our clinical ladder, highly regarded nurse residency, certification bonus and tuition reimbursement and scholarship opportunities. In addition, we are actively working to attract nurses to the organization through referral bonuses, offering relocation, Open Houses and direct access to nurse recruiters.

Pros

Worked in the ER. Coworkers were phenomenal, most providers were wonderful to work with and very knowledgeable. There can be cliqueish work environment.

Cons

Management is not very helpful. Many incidents with MH pt where staff was involved and then asked what they could have done differently to prevent said situation instead of assisting to take action against it happening again. Staff turnover is crazy and pay is not great, considering they are constantly hiring new travel RNs, yet paying their staff bare minimum.
