Pros
MEDIAmerica hires very talented editors and journalists, some of the best in the PNW.
The edit teams are dynamic, in-the-know and a pleasure to work with. They also tend to stay in their jobs longer than most other parts of the company.
All of the company's publications and branded events are well regarded regionally and have a long history as Oregon owned.
Excellent work-life balance, with opportunities to work from home and a very hands-off approach to getting the job done.
Cons
The cons mostly outweigh the very few pros.
The company feels out of date and behind the times. It invests virtually nothing in their staff or their own brands, and there is a high level of turnover.
The CEO has a view that anyone can be replaced, so no one is really valued and a lot of people are trying to get out.
The leadership of the company feels like it's waiting to go out of business.
Websites are clunky, out of date and leadership doesn't see the aging reception of their own brand as a problem.
Award-winning magazines are turning into catalogs with sponsored content.
THERE IS NO INVESTMENT IN READER-DRIVEN REVENUE, WHICH IS ESSENTIAL!
The company doesn't seem to want to grow at all.
