Pros

-Great name and opportunities to work with students -Diversity amongst student body and staff -ERG groups are doing great work with events like movie screenings, etc.

Cons

-Cost of living is high (and only getting worse with inflation). Administration is doing nothing to increase pay -Zero-low opportunities to negotiate salary -Staff are valued less here. Creates friction between staff and faculty -The office can come off as cliquey- only a small portion of the staff has been there over 5 years and never worked in any other admissions office so there’s a lack of perspective -High turnover -Management is poor -very risk-averse

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
