Pros

Great people, incredibly intelligent and caring. Not a lot of pressure despite being one of the world's most famous tech schools. Nicely located in Kendall Sq, the biggest start up and biotech hub in the US (along with San Fran).

Cons

Like most academia, low monetary compensation. Facilities at MIT are fairly old in many areas and the school is still in the intermediate stage of upgrading.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
