Pros

The benefits are really great: Access to MIT Medical is a game changer Childcare tuition scholarships + $5000 of childcare expenses Free MBTA bus/subway Pension!

Cons

While the benefits are outstanding, you can't pay your bills with benefits. MIT needs to increase the minimum salary/wage to a livable one. It's not a livable wage if folks cannot survive off of just their salary without spouses/partners and in many cases roommates and side gigs.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
