Pros

Nice office Good perks (Friday evening drinks and occasional meals out etc) Ok starting salary and decent commission structure which meant good potential for bonus Experience taught me that recruiters tend to be an unscrupulous lot and thankfully made me realise recruitment is not what it's cracked up to be.

Cons

Poorly run graduate scheme and questionable treatment of hard-working and talented graduates. The whole experience could be likened to a poor-man's version of the TV series "The Apprentice". Each week or two someone was seemingly being forced to leave mostly because the business as a whole was not performing as expected. Misleading expectations - total disparity between what was sold to us at interview and the eventual reality. Spent 10 months working toward a position which never materialised ( On joining the company they promised opportunities in the following sectors: Finance Insurance Risk Commodities trading Technology (Semi-Conductors) IT Contract At the time I'd left ~20 staff had been forced to leave and half the recruitment sectors it had at the time of joining the company had been closed (leaving only IT and Technology and a small commodities trading team). Perhaps caused by a decision to grow too quickly as a business and not focus on its core business i.e Semi-conductors.

Pros

I started my recruitment career at MRL with no prior experience in sales or technology. Thanks to their excellent training programs and a truly collaborative environment, I was able to quickly develop the skills needed to succeed. At MRL, if you show a willingness to learn and adapt, you’ll find strong support from everyone around you. The team shares a common goal and values working alongside people they genuinely enjoy collaborating with. The CEO is committed to standing out from traditional recruitment firms by offering a four-day workweek and flexible working hours. He understands the outdated perceptions of recruitment and is actively working to modernize the industry. MRL provides flexible hours, a supportive and friendly team to ensure a great work life. If you're looking to start a career in recruitment, I couldn't recommend a better place than MRL.

Cons

While MRL is making real efforts to revamp the traditional recruitment culture, some of the usual challenges still surface — as they do in most places, to be fair. One notable issue is the monthly target of two placements, which I believe is unrealistic; even at the peak of the tech market in 2022, only about half the office consistently met this goal. It was a strange shift moving from revenue-based targets to placement-based targets, and from conversations behind the scenes, it’s clear that many consultants still have reservations about the change. That said, I do appreciate MRL’s willingness to explore new ways to incentivize their team.
