Pros
Working with interesting brands, and alongside some really knowledgeable people.
Cons
'Progressive minds welcomed' read the brochure. The glossy front page adorned with awards. 'How inviting' I thought. I booked my tickets, packed my bags and boarded, waving goodbye to my self-esteem and sanity who decided it was better they stayed ashore. To begin with, the water was slightly choppy. 'Mustn't have my sea legs yet' I muttered to myself. I continued to navigate my way through presentations and meetings. 'It'll be better soon' I reminded myself. 6 months in and I wasn't feeling any better. The water seemed choppier. The boat rocked violently. Team mates fell overboard. Instinctively I reached for a life jacket, only to find there wasn't one, in it's place were posters that read 'wellbeing is important'. I laughed. 'Where is this ship actually headed?' I asked my team mates. They shrugged, 'not sure'. They'd been aboard for so long, the picture on the front cover of the brochure a distant memory. 'I heard it's somewhere hot' beamed another. I, however, was on fire. Clouds of smoke rolled past me. The crew try to smother the flames, I appreciate their help but underneath the ash I am still red hot. — At night as I lay awake, I scrunch my eyes shut and imagine what it feels like to plunge into the cool waters below, hoping that I'll float back to shore.
