Good Intentions, Bad Implementation - Web Developer Magnatag Visible Systems Employee Review

Pros

The first thing I will say is that I worked in a wonderful team environment! The database engineer, the marketing manager, the IT director were always willing to help & make me feel welcomed; my direct manager was always by my side when I needed him & addressed any concerns immediately, the problem was always waiting on answers from the higher ups that could take hours or even kept me waiting until the next day. The lunch breaks were generous, hours were 8:30-5 & the salary was reasonably competitive.

Cons

Confusion runs rampant throughout the company. When I was employed I was told that there was a transition in process from Wally to Christian, but depending on who you asked it could go either way. I was always hiding something in terms of the project when either were on-site (or in my area); Wally & Christian believed I was there to work on completely different projects for the company & didn't find out until about nine months down the road. I was ultimately laid off, probably for the best, I had been searching for another position for about a month prior.

Pros

My immediate supervisor was an incredible source of knowledge; he had been there for many years, understood the business very well, very up-to-date on new technologies, and would take the time to share information upon your request. The compensation and benefits packages were very competitive for this market.

Cons

Overall as a company they are just about in a stand still; the owner is semi retired and his son will take over the family business ONE DAY, but Wally still has a huge impact on decisions. They are stuck in between the current (outdated) website and making great improvements, but which one you're working on is dependent on the day. The are very strict with dress codes; prefer dress suits, ties, etc, but would accept khakis and button ups (I went to school in California and interned at a couple of companies and it was very relaxed).
