Pros

Amazing co-workers that really treat you like family. Designers are creative and passionate about design. The project managers, designers, and design-associates are truly the saving grace of this company. Wonderful people that work so hard!

Cons

There are many cons to working at Marc-Michael’s. Such as terrible management that gossips like they are in high school. Low pay that is not competitive with anyone in the area, they’ll use their “prestige” as a way to make you look past minimum wage. Serious lack of diversity and education on how to speak appropriately in an office space, once heard management say “don’t mean to be a slave driver” to another person in management to reference them to follow them. Department is split into two, so you gain no well-rounded experience but rather what area they would rather pigeon-hole you into. Terrible place to work straight out of college, especially if they don’t assign you to a team, you have no mentorship, no security in knowing what you might do each week, and expect you to reach their lofty expectations without giving you any guidance or resources to help you get there. Openly admits they are a mess of a company, using outdated software that is constantly glitching, has no real outlines for employee growth, and no one is actually making sure management treats their employees right as HR is their personal lap dog and lawyer. I have never worked at a company where the turnover rate is so high, in a span of 5 months, 4 employees quit that have been working there for multiple years (see other reviews). Don’t believe the fake reviews they’ve planted to raise their score, just another way to try and hide how much of a poorly run company they are to potential employees.

Marc-Michaels Interior Design Response

Being terminated can be followed by a desire to smear an employer, as evidenced by this review. While we believe that everyone has the right to express themselves, the accusations in this review do not accurately depict the culture or work environment of Marc-Michaels, and we are obligated to correct the many inaccurate and/or absolutely false claims being made. To start things off on a positive note, the one thing we both agree on is that our design staff is amazing! Our staff is talented, dedicated, and excels at creating beautiful spaces for our clients. We do not pay any position minimum wage, or even close to that. Our pay is incredibly competitive in the marketplace, and we are continually reviewing compensation to ensure we are in line with industry standards for each of our offices. We share our company structure with every candidate as a part of the interview process, so how we are structured or the career path each position could aspire to is never a surprise to our employees. Our company’s success has been built on the expertise of two creative departments working in collaboration. We work closely with all staff to map out paths of success for their roles regularly, both formally at their annual review and informally on a day-to-day basis to make sure we are clear on expectations for advancement. On occasion we do have some staff whose growth is limited by education, performance, and/or experience. In those situations, we are upfront and direct with the employee. We have had several success stories of employees who joined our team straight out of college! Many have been with the firm for over a decade and much more. With a staff of 60, almost half of our firm has been with the company for a minimum of 10 years and approximately 20% have been with us for 20 years or more. Our staff retention is one of the highest in the industry, and the firm is incredibly proud to be a company where employees want to work. We certainly do not believe that our organization is a mess, far from it! We are a leader in an incredibly competitive industry. Our firm, our leadership, and all our staff are held to a high level of accountability and accomplishment. We have said it before, but bears repeating—Marc-Michaels is not for everyone. We look for highly motivated, capable, solution-oriented individuals who take ownership and responsibility in their work. If that speaks to you, reach out, you may just be our next success story.
