Directionless and Seemingly Incapable of Adapting to Change. - Anonymous employee Marketing Breakthroughs Employee Review

Pros

For a company of its size, the healthcare benefits are decent. Total compensation packages and salary are decent. Again, for a company of its size and resources. Drinks with the team every Friday in the kitchen is nice. If you can survive the pressure cooker environment, you'll learn a lot. Really quickly. Career experience is accumulated at 2:1 or even 3:1.

Cons

Lengthy. Let's focus on the root issues that have a shot at being addressed by management. There's no longer any real vision for the company other than sell stuff to clients and scramble to get it done because unreasonable deadlines have been promised to close the deal. Project execution is hobbled before it even starts when deals are signed without any meaningful communication with the people accountable for operational planning. People are chewed up and spit out at an alarming pace. Though there's sometimes a valid business decision behind the terminations, proper exits are simply not done. There's a seriously troubling revolving door here.. if you dig a bit, you'll find that the entire staff (as of late 2015) has been employed here for less than two years. For a company that boasts of a twenty year history of success and growth, that's a question mark. 'Flaky millennials' aren't the root of the problem. They're the canary in the mine. Working late or on weekends is frequently expected, and is usually necessitated by unrealistic project deadlines. Though there are nice words said about work/life balance, it's mostly lip service. If you actually exercise the kind of balance that will help keep you performing at a high level (and in turn doing great things for clients), you'll likely be snarked about behind closed doors. Eventually that will fester with management, and you might find yourself on the short list to get the boot. Engagements are consistently under-budgeted or sold at a discount, creating incredible pressure on operational planners and the execution team to deliver 'best-in-class' results with little regard for what it actually takes to create those results. The company's time-tracking software and policies make it easy to obsess and reprimand over the bean counting when the focus should be on managing expectations realistically and delivering value for clients. Eventually, the really talented creatives get disillusioned and driven away as a result of this disconnect between outcomes and fifteen minute increments.

Pros

- Collaborative work setting: working on varying tasks with the team enables you to stretch your creativity and learn from different perspectives. MB was great for that. - Fun work dynamic: team would usually break around the same time, and we would end work on Friday's an hour early for social hour & wine!! Great bonding time and a way to reflect on the weeks successes. - Flexibility: management is great when it comes to adjusting work day hours to accommodate personal needs, and for taking time off. - Valued: A paycheck is nice, but that goes straight to the bank. Appreciation is what encourages you to do better. Management would often communicate their thanks with team lunches, unexpected sweets (Susie Q's - yum!) and an old-fashioned “thank-you.” This was always a nice way to start the day. - Support: one of the biggest factors I commend MB and management is their support for staff. Whether it is personal or work related, I always felt I had someone to talk to.

Cons

- Fast pace, high expectations and challenging: a heavy workload of responsibility was motivating and rewarding, however, sometimes it was difficult to stay on task as more work got piled onto your day with tight deadlines. Needless to say, this comes with the work environment.

Pros

Have been working for MB for several years now on a part-time basis, the company has been very flexible letting me set my work hours. Overall I would say that working there has been very positive, the exposure I've gained to various traditional and digital marketing channels has helped me gain a lot of experience and feel more comfortable in client interactions. - You get to work with a really diverse cross-section of clients, getting to know their industries and how to reach niche consumer demographics. - The org structure is relatively flat, meaning that you're often working directly with, or for, the CEO and gaining from his experience - MB seems to really pride itself on the office dynamics and team culture; time is set aside for employee events often. Senators games and in-office yoga were probably my favorites. - As a creative agency, MB is strong in digital marketing in particular, so its a great place to pickup Google and social media analytics certifications. The company also offers to sponsor relevant professional development. - The total compensation package was pretty competitive and included health insurance

Cons

- Scheduling can sometimes be stressful when a lot of projects are going on in-parallel. The pace of the shop at times is break-neck
