Pros

I absolutely loved my students and their families and getting to be a part of their musical journey. I loved our teachers and I tried to build a community that felt welcoming & enjoyable to come work in.

Cons

The reality is that if you’re not in upper management, you don’t really matter and won’t be appreciated. They often advertise competitive teacher pay, but please notice that front desk pay is never advertised as competitive. That’s because it’s not. There is a high turnover rate of staff and for good reason. As far as “company culture,” I was hopeful initially based on what I was told. But it was just a good catchphrase that turned up empty. I love the friends I made, but don’t be fooled: management does not care about you, they care about money.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re so glad to hear how much you valued working with your students, their families, and our teaching team - and that you played a part in building a welcoming, supportive community. That kind of culture doesn’t happen by accident, and we’re grateful for the role you played in it. We’re sorry to hear that you felt undervalued during your time with us. That’s not the experience we want for anyone on our team. While no organization is perfect, we care deeply about our people - and we’re always striving to improve the way we communicate and support every role in the company. In terms of pay, we’ve always aimed to offer competitive compensation based on role expectations and market data for our area. Teaching positions require specialized training and experience, which is why they are structured to earn more per hour than administrative roles. That said, we’ve also worked hard to increase pay rates for our front desk staff over the past several years, and we’ll continue investing in our team as we grow. We know that culture is built from the inside out and that feedback like this is an important part of that process. While turnover does happen, ours remains within a healthy industry range, and we continue to focus on creating a workplace where people feel supported, challenged, and part of something meaningful. Thank you again for your contributions and your honesty. We’re listening and committed to continuing to grow.

Pros

I've been with Mason Music for years and have had the opportunity to watch the company grow and evolve over time. In my experience, it continues to improve year after year. The team is made up of kind and hardworking individuals - teachers, administrators, etc. - who create a fun work environment. I've met a lot of good people over the years. My role allows me to interact with our CEO on a regular basis. He is deeply invested in the team and plays a very active role in the day-to-day operations. He is highly hands-on and genuinely cares about both the staff and the overall culture of the organization. Feedback is regularly asked for from the team, even when he knows a decision or change might be unpopular. He never shies away from the truth about how people on the team feel and he always considers all perspectives. Mason Music also just has an awesome group of customers and students that help make up the community that we all get the interact with on a regular basis.

Cons

As a small business, Mason Music continues to evolve and adapt in pursuit of greater efficiency and long-term success. With growth inevitably comes change, and while I believe these changes are ultimately necessary and positive, not everyone shares that perspective all the time. This has occasionally led to some turnover or discontent within the team. However, a core team has remained committed and focused over the years which I believe has strengthened the company and contributed to making it an even better place to work over time. I think it will continue to get better and better.
