Pros

The only pro is having a job in this economy but that's it.

Cons

Decreasing margins leads to less commission. It's impossible to earn top level commission anymore. It's unlivable and you have no work life balance. I have worked up to 70 hours in one week during the holidays and always work well over 40 hours during regular time. You do not get overtime because you earn commission even on paychecks where you earn minimum pay which is hourly only. Corporate wants you to be a yes man but never remembers when you go above and beyond to do favors for them. Promotions are all about politics. A DM or Senior Store Manager will promote someone if it makes them look good regardless of if the person is a good fit or not. Many managers are stepping down because they do not get any additional compensation for taking on extra work. We have high turnover. People quitting on the spot or getting fired constantly. You have to request time off, even just for one day, at least a month in advance. Constantly understaffed so everyone is required to work extra hours. Management does not listen to the needs or suggestion of employees. When the warehouse messes up your order, they do not take accountability and fixing their mistakes can cost you hundreds to thousands in commission and there are no repercussions for them whatsoever. The warehouse often does not respond to emails and ignores you about important time sensitive matters. I could go on but I'm too tired.

Pros

Lots of autonomy in role, opportunities to bonus. Great discounts on sleep products and the sales teams are well compensated, as compared to competitors or similar industries.

Cons

Lack of clarity around goals and metrics, it is unclear what you need to do to "win" as performance reviews are based on 15+ KPIs and they are not aligned to what drives your bonus. As an external DM, there is a huge gap in onboarding and support from RVP and no real training. Although engagement and retention are important, the company has made very minimal changes to support work/life balance for the sales team who have limited flexibility around sales holidays and required hours. All responsibilities and corporate changes happening at the field level are left to the DM to implement with unclear or unreasonable expectations.
