Pros

Excellent company to work for, hard working and results driven. I left a long and rewarding career in the same industry to go to work for the MAXIMUS NYSOH project as a long-term and high-quality career move. I think the company is excellent with a great work ethic and a real desire to do the right thing and achieve psotive results.

Cons

Unfortunately, as much as I respect the company, there was a personality conflict with my particular director A micro-manager that I feel was more concerned about process than progress. Although it was made clear in my interview that I am was independent thinker and results oriented person who simply can not thrive under a micro-managed environment, it turned out to be just that. In my previous job, I simply could do no wrong; in this one, I could do nothing right. I feel like the job I was hired for and the responsibilities defuned in the job description were really never operationally implemented, which left me with a lack of understanding of the expectatons and direction in the position. I recieved little to no direction and was simply expected to "do the job" although the job never really developed. I was "pigeon-holed" into a role that was not my expertise and forte which unfortuntely did not set me up for success. I was eventually allowed to resign from my position. Please note that this is simply my experience and others may or may not have the same viewpoint and it is unfortunate and very disappointing that I was not allowed to continue my career at MAXIMUS.

Pros

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
