Pros
Flexibility of hours, not being stuck in a clinic herding patients through like cattle, independence. I always had as much work as I wanted, but I lived in a huge metropolitan city. However, most of my patients lived in poor ghetto areas and it was a bit scary driving alone and visiting some of these hoods. They pay more for visits that require lab draws, but it is annoying having to carry all the supplies and deliver to the lab at the end of the day.
Cons
long hours of at home charting (EMR is not user friendly), poor reimbursement fee for no show appointments ($20, this isn't even close to the average hourly rate of a NP), problems with scheduling clerks. No consistency in your paycheck, some weeks I had a 50% no show rate because the company does not call to remind the patients of the appointments in advance. Providers don't get the schedule until 7 PM the night before, so it is usually too late to call the patient in the evening.
