Pros
This is a small company, about 15 employees at the moment, and it's the child of a much larger company (MediaTek) that provides a lot of support, resources and opportunities. There are some advantages of both worlds: the large size of the parent company provides job security and access to several resources and benefits; At the same time, the small size of MediaTek Research gives individual employees the opportunity to have a significant impact within the company. What I mostly like about the company is the opportunity of working on both fundamental research and product engineering. I like working on theory of Machine Learning and publish research papers at conferences, and sometimes switch to more applied problems that have impact in the real world products of MediaTek. I also found the people and culture quite enjoyable, they are mostly nice people and sometimes we hang out outside of work for food, drinks and playing games.
Cons
It does not pay as much as other big companies (e.g. Google, Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft), although it has recently raised salaries to all employees. Some of the work is done jointly with company members in Taiwan, and the time difference between UK and Taiwan does not help. Management may improve, and some procedures are not very well established.
