Pros
Medium is a great place to work if you're looking to grow, have high impact, and are open to adapt when circumstances change. From my point of view, you should work here if: - You like helping your colleagues, whether they're on your team or in a completely different corner of the company. - You don't box yourself into a particular approach, project, or technology choosing to instead focus on the larger goal. - You're willing to take on work that requires you to grow and aren't too bummed or judgmental about inevitable mistakes, whether made by your or other people. Also: - Medium doesn't have ads. The subscription business model puts our writers and readers first and makes a lot of ethical decisions very straightforward. - Salaries are based on the SF Bay Area market no matter where you live. - Additional compensation in way to stock options, educational reimbursements, and other Silicon Valley perks. - People *are* very kind & nice. - Lots of people who've been at the company for 6+ years. Medium is not a place for you if you like to berate your colleagues or so attached to your particular view of the world that everyone who disagrees with you must be evil. Finally, if you're looking to coast in your job, Medium is simply too small of a company for that.
Cons
There has definitely been a good amount of turmoil recently, you can read all about it online. For one reason or another, some folks have always had strong opinions about Medium so it's not always fun reading another hot-take on Twitter. On the other hand, if you want to work at a universally beloved company good luck finding one.
