Pros

I found that a lot of investment is made in training for employees; The office (Gun Wharf) isn't too bad and has some great views over the river; Excellent work-life balance and flexible working; Generous pension; Some nice people and some good work being done to support local people and businesses.

Cons

It's way too hard to get rid of poor performing employees (of which there are quite a few); Internal applicants tend to be preferred for jobs over external candidates which sounds good in practice but then it makes it hard to inject any new ideas or creativity from the private sector into a typically outdated Council, thus resulting in some quite bad lower/mid level management; Some of the projects and work cost a lot of money but actually deliver very little; There are some employees that have been there for way too long that add nothing; Very rarely do you see or get to speak to anyone in a leadership position; Employees are very demotivated due to lack of leadership and years of frozen pay; Although this may be stating the obvious, everything is controlled by Councillors - if they don't like a project or even a person in a team then that area will suffer and have funding cut.
