Pros

Flexible work schedule: Meijer work schedules are extremely flexible so much so one never knows what days and what hours from week to week you are working. Oh and if you like being scheduled for meetings on your day off you will love working at Meijer.

Cons

Management: totally lacking in leadership, people and management skills. An example, the meat dept.’s hot dog and lunch meat wall normally has one full time person working 8 hours a day 5 days a week to keep it stocked. The other day that person was off the first two day of the week, the store director personally came over and ordered two of us to have the wall completely stock in 15 minute (to stock it after a weekend usually takes a person two days). He had some big wig coming in and wanted to look good. One of our more benign store directors actually rolled up her sleeves and help stock. Now first off what he got out of this order was two upset employees and secondly our motivation to do a fast efficient job was definitely not there. So what he got were two employees who just crammed and jammed product anywhere and everywhere and who also went into “Slow Motion mode”. Apparently Meijer management has the mindset of the 1900’s when corporations believed that workers were “Disposable Tools”, well just because we work for minimum wage and are subject to the whims of management does not mean we are “Meijer slaves”! We have been told at our Meijer “Friendly Meeting” that if you don’t like working a Meijer there’s the door, we have plenty of people waiting to come in (real friendly). This may be a family owned and run corporation but it certainly is not family friendly.

Pros

Great company and benefits. The Meijer Credit Union is amazing and being able to work remote is a blessing.

Cons

Not much recognition for individual contribution. Recognition systems on the whole are great though especially for the company's size

Pros

Direct coworkers were great to work with. I also enjoyed being left to do my work and not babysat by management.

Cons

Management doesn't know what they are doing. Resets and floor plans were regularly not done properly. The store I worked at has a skeleton crew so I never got help (but was expected to stop everything I'm going to go help other departments/areas). Also meaning good luck to any customers needing help, especially when I was the only person working my area of the store, so when I wasn't there, no one was. Management also regularly disappeared into the offices or were on vacation. Also was terminated for reasons outside my control even though I was told they look at the reasons for attendance incidents before termination. Never got to get the FMLA or accommodation to my doctors before being terminated two days after I requested them. Didn't bother asking for a raise either. I did multiple times and got nothing.
