Pros

-Everyone I worked with was truly down-to-earth, kind, positive, and supportive. Everyone wants to see you succeed and wants you to enjoy your day-to-day work. -Very positive culture. -I started right when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and having now since moved to another company, I'm surprised at how well Meijer adapted to working remotely and how they figured it out so quickly. I didn't realize until I left that that isn't the case with all companies. -Upper management truly does listen, and more importantly take action on, employee feedback. They really do listen and care. -Employee recognition is highly valued and encouraged, both formally and informally. It sounds so simple and small, but I didn't realize until I started working for Meijer that a quick, "Hey, good job on that work!" really does make a huge difference in employee satisfaction. -The Digital department is very forward-thinking, and open to employees' ideas to improve the app, website, and other digital touch points to make the best experience for their customers. -During uncertain economic times due to the pandemic, I was grateful to be in an industry that is actually thriving. Job stability and security was a huge plus.

Cons

-I was a long-term contractor (told by the contracting agency throughout my interview and offer process that it was a 9-month contract-to-hire role, which then, months after I started, they later said it would be long-term contract indefinitely, but that's another whole story). When I joined, I was truly shocked at how many contractors Meijer uses. I would say of the several hundred people in the Digital department, probably 85% were contractors, may of whom had been there for years. I don't know why Meijer doesn't convert their contractors to FTE, especially for those who want to be converted and for those who have been there for years. -Because of the point above, there was a LOT of turnover on my team. In the year I was there, I'd say about half of my team left for other opportunities. -That being said, I would say that the pros outweighed the cons during my time at Meijer. If I could give 4.5 stars I would!

Pros

Direct coworkers were great to work with. I also enjoyed being left to do my work and not babysat by management.

Cons

Management doesn't know what they are doing. Resets and floor plans were regularly not done properly. The store I worked at has a skeleton crew so I never got help (but was expected to stop everything I'm going to go help other departments/areas). Also meaning good luck to any customers needing help, especially when I was the only person working my area of the store, so when I wasn't there, no one was. Management also regularly disappeared into the offices or were on vacation. Also was terminated for reasons outside my control even though I was told they look at the reasons for attendance incidents before termination. Never got to get the FMLA or accommodation to my doctors before being terminated two days after I requested them. Didn't bother asking for a raise either. I did multiple times and got nothing.
