Pros

The people are great to work with (of course you’ll always get a few lemons) but overall there are some amazing people who really care about what they’re doing. It’s also a big enough organisation that there is room to move (up or sideways). I undertook a course for free as PD and was promoted when my tasks exceeded my role.

Cons

I had a great experience because I had a great Director, after she left things definitely changed. The new director was sexist, racist and mocked people’s mental health, so was unliked through the whole team. When I raised the issues with HR (with evidence) I was told that “I might be taking things the wrong way”. That was so disappointing I left to seek further opportunities. I organised an honest exit interview with executive staff and to their credit they organised formal mediation and that Director was let go.

Pros

Opportunity to teach international curriculum in China

Cons

Employment structure is highly unclear, with multiple entities involved and no clear indication of who the actual employer is Limited transparency regarding responsibility and accountability across the different organizations Contract renewal decisions are not clearly explained and appear inconsistent Lack of clear ownership in management decisions, leading to weak accountability Communication is often indirect, delayed, or lacking sufficient detail Ongoing concerns among staff about whether employment obligations are being fully met Job security is low despite continued teaching needs and stable student demand Overall structure creates uncertainty and leaves employees feeling unsupported and exposed
