Pros
Worked at two Menards over the course of 3 years because of school. One was an excellent experience; store manager understood how each of the departments worked and had a good handle on the capabilities of each of the employees. Department managers were also great and deserved their stations. Weekend pay/holiday pay was unusual but I didn't have a problem with it. They made it easy to switch stores because of school - I worked at one during the school year and another during summer and winter breaks. They encouraged me to go further in the company if things didn't work out with school and really had me thinking about it for awhile!
Cons
The second store that I worked at was awful. The store manager felt he was a gift, and didn't bother getting to know any of his employees or the store itself. He had vendettas against certain employees and would hit on others. Someone I knew joined the military and made the mistake of letting them know he'd be leaving for basic - they found a reason to fire him so they didn't have to keep a job open for him when he came back. I quit soon after out of disgust. Made sure to let them know in my exit interview precisely why, and as far as I know the big wigs up north never talked to the SM about it.
