Pros

The caliber of talent at Messari is truly top-notch. Regardless of position or department, literally, everyone is smart, driven, passionate about the mission, and just downright interesting. Messari is a place that does remote work right. We're able to maintain a strong company culture without a manufactured "drinking the kool-aid vibe" inherent with other organizations with "strong" culture. I really look forward to every randomly assigned coffee chat meeting I have. There are always new and interesting problems to solve. There's so much opportunity to build systems and structures from the ground up. It's nearly impossible to be bored. Also, we're huge on learning and personal development. Everyone gets a learning stipend every year to spend on whatever development opportunity they want, and there is always truly interesting lunch and learns. Even though it's a bear market, our leadership has been good stewards of our funds. We are well-capitalized, and we are continuing to build.

Cons

Not really a con per se, but we're a start-up, this is a startup, and you're expected to do the work. This is not the place to "rest and vest". That's not to say leadership encourages or even endorses hustle culture (no credit for shuffling papers), but the expectation is that you're putting 50hrs of work a week minimum. That being said, when those hours of work happen are very flexible. I work out and walk my dog in the middle of the day all the time, I just put in extra work before or after. We also have unlimited PTO, and as long as you put in requests reasonably in advance, there's no stigma in taking it. Also not necessarily a con but if you require rigid structure or hand holding, this is not the place for you. It's a startup and things can be chaotic.

Pros

Not much to say here.

Cons

There is a lot of turnover across all teams. The product and eng. team calls the shots on everything, which leads to business decisions made by unqualified people in matters unrelated to their department. They also put unqualified people to lead departments. Very much a bro/frat culture with a lot of ego and little experience. The company seems to hang on the edge with little growth in sight. A lot of attention is focused on building things users never asked for.
