Pros

Some genuinely good people work there!

Cons

I’ve never posted on Glassdoor before, but my experience at MetaCoastal necessitates it. It is essential to speak truth to power. The positive review below is amusing and lacks credibility. Never mind that this department has had 5 leaders in 5 years! Doesn’t that tell you something? (And other departments have fared far worse!) This company cycles through leaders like I cycle through laundry. Never mind that this employee had been with the company mere days. Never mind that it is quite natural to have “first-day-of-school” excitement after just one week on the job. Give it time. The CEO is good at conning people into thinking he is a good guy initially; but disingenuous charm only goes so far. Why not focus on creating a better place to work, rather than creating the illusion that it is so? The reviews will change organically if you are focused on the right things. There is a reason why the turnover rate here is nearly 50%; and posting artificially positive reviews is not the solution. There is a difference between caring about what your employees are saying about you, and CARING ABOUT YOUR EMPLOYEES. Mr. Callahan fails to see that difference. Even in his feeble attempts to “dig deeper” to make changes, he fails to look at himself as the starting point. It’s sad and unfortunate for all the good people there who toil every day to line his pocketbook. Also, Mr. Callahan’s lunches and meetings with employees are not for the purpose he would lead you to believe. He is not listening because he cares. Rather, it is his insidious way to gather gossip and material for his case-building when he decides to make a move against you or your peers, which is likely to occur if any of you ever use your voice to call out an issue. Despite his assertions, he somehow regards constructive feedback as dissent and disloyalty in the ranks, like this is a 19th century military school. As a result, most people there have learned to just stay quiet and suffer in silence until another job opportunity presents itself. I quickly learned that you either have to be corrupt, or be willing to be silent about the corruption (a “yes man”), to last there for very long. The deceit runs deep. My best advice for prospective employees? Run! And if you’re a woman, SPRINT! Don’t be misled by appearances. The women there with leadership titles are leaders in name only. Everything a woman does has to be cross-checked, scrutinized and approved by one (or all) of the “Big Three” – the 3 men in charge. And each of the 3 male executives has their own story of dishonorable conduct (a crooked timeshare leasing deal, embezzlement, harassment). Yet they remain. But honest, hardworking women lose every time at MetaCoastal, especially if they have the audacity to ask reasonable questions or push for positive change. At least 6 (six!) women in leadership roles have left the company within the past year; they simply couldn’t tolerate the corrupt and condescending environment any longer. The misogyny in this company is just subtle enough to be overlooked at first glance; and frankly, I think the CEO lacks the self-awareness to even acknowledge it within himself. He is far too busy looking for others to blame for his problems. Basic Math 101, Mr. Callahan: Always begin problem-solving by looking first at the common denominator. (Helpful hint: YOU!) It’s interesting that you speak a lot about accountability, but yet take no ownership of your starring role in your company’s problems.

We readily admit that we have our challenges. However, our goals remain the same: we are working to retain and develop the talented people currently on our team, and we want to attract even more. We welcome the feedback, good and bad, and we want to make meaningful and lasting changes to professionalize our culture. We are making strides in overcoming hurdles that come up as we grow. No matter what, we remain committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all of us working in our collection of brands so that we can cultivate and grow our best asset – our employees. As a female executive returning to the company, I am aware of our turnover in leadership and HR and the negative impact that has had on our employees. My goal, along with the rest of the executive team, is to identify areas where we need to improve, and implement strategies to cultivate a culture that supports our brand values and individual growth, regardless of that person's race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, age, disability or genetic information. We have already started working on some of these initiatives through a unified and transparent executive team. You weren’t happy here; that’s unfortunate, and we truly wish you well. I, along with the rest of my colleagues, would welcome the opportunity to talk with you directly. Ultimately, this could only benefit our employees, who are the lifeblood of our changing company. I encourage you to reach out to Human Resources, at hrhelp@metacoastal.com to set up a discussion on what could help us to improve. We sincerely appreciate your productive participation and contribution in helping us achieve these goals

Pros

Travel Benefits, 401K, Insurance, some good people.

Cons

There are honestly more downsides to working for this company than I care to catalog. The con to one of my pros - you get travel benefits, but good luck using them! If you would like to go to the beach in the winter this would be a great benefit for you. Trying to get a vacation in the summer is difficult as the travel season (May through September) turns the entire enterprise into disorganized chaos. As mentioned in other reviews (and by people more eloquent than myself), the environment is very toxic. Employees who could actually make a change are fired and the ones that cause multiple problems are praised. Although, as a female, I do not believe that there is anything sexist in play. Policies are only adhered to when it is convenient to management. There have been numerous cases where two employees have done the same thing and only one has been fired for it. This company knows that they have bad ratings across job sites and have been asking employees to leave good reviews. Take everything you read with a grain of salt because you never know if a former employee is disgruntled or a current employee has been asked to leave a good review.

Thank you for your insight, and just being completely transparent – we do invite employees and guests who have had a good experience to share it with others – in any format/ or any website they feel comfortable with. We are proud of our company and our employees, and we want to recruit even more awesome people to join our team. Our travel benefits are a distinctive perk, and we love getting to hear about lots of memorable trips, as our employees have open access to our availability, just as our guests do. If you need help booking travel, HR can help. I would very much like to talk with you about your comments regarding the disparity in applying policies consistently and to gain a better understanding of the specific instances to which you are referring. HR is ready to investigate and address any issues that might come to light. With the off season upon us, we are taking your advice to review our past season performance and identify trends and proactively address to improve next season’s performance. I would welcome your insights into where we can make changes that improve both our guest experience and our employees’ work life. Please reach out to me at hr@metacoastal.com.
