Pros

I'm a long-time former employee, and had I not decided to pursue my passions outside the software industry I would very likely be back at MetaCommunications. I've seen how a lot of companies function, and have owned/operated my own business as well. And from that perspective I can say MetaCommunications is a great place to work. Sure...they had some growing pains in the early years, but what company doesn't?

Cons

I don't really have any Cons...but maybe a word of advice. If you have the drive and desire, and want the opportunity to become the best at what you do - whether it's programming, support, professional services, sales, marketing, or whatever - then MetaCommunications is a fantastic environment. If you want to become a true professional in your career, MetaCommunications is the place for you. If you are simply looking for a "job" where you come to work, put your time in, and nothing further with no real true ambitions or desires, then MetaCommunications may not be for you. And I say that for both your and the company's benefit. Seriously - look inside yourself, do some soul searching, and ask yourself what it is you really want to achieve in your professional career - if you have the inner passion, drive, and desire, then MetaCommunications will help you achieve it.

Pros

The work environment is a great place to learn the basics of a company's operations and working in an office. The internship was very helpful in developing my professional communication skills and comfortability within an office space. The hours were very flexible and the pay was good. Good learning space for interns and questions are encouraged. I was able to collaborate with almost every department of the company for a well-rounded learning experience.

Cons

It is right in the downtown Iowa City area, so I ended up eating out a lot at the local restaurants.

Pros

Pretty cool office in downtown Iowa City, work from home capability, not a lot of micro managing and a smart/talented employee base. Compensation was also above average for what I was expecting (similar jobs in this field).

Cons

The product itself (Workgroups DaVinci) is just not very good --- it is cumbersome and difficult to on-board for a perspective customer and troubleshoot isues. Within first months of employment, multiple senior level employees left which to me was not a great sign for the stability and future of the company. They are supposed to be rolling out a product however I did not have confidence this would be done in the timeline provided by management. For such a small company (50 employees or so), the lack of communication from the management team to to rest of the company in regards to product roll outs, long standing software issues, etc. was pretty shocking. Kind of a boring place to work as well, the job itself is very monotonous and not a great energy to the office environment.

Continuous improvement and innovation is at the forefront of Meta's core values, particularly important during this time when we are few weeks away from the launch of our new SaaS product at Adobe MAX. Our persistent commitment to transform Meta into a high-performing, people development company relies on constant empowerment of cross-funcional teams, being purposeful in everything we do and finding ways of communicating effectively. Are we there yet? No. Will we get there? Yes! Once again, I'm grateful for your input and time at Meta. -Vladimir
