Pros

Working in Metro Markets is generally fun due to the friendly environment, nice colleagues, and international scene. However, the company struggles to succeed due to poor planning, subpar management, and inadequate hiring practices.

Cons

Although the company tries to portray itself as having a startup-like atmosphere, my personal experience was more of a sugar-coated enterprise. At the end of the day, you’re a METRO employee, and all kinds of corporate treatments, deadlines, and plans are in your way. Since the company strictly follows guidelines, there is a huge lack of authority in many managerial positions, resulting in a lack of decision-making power. This means that you cannot expect rational decisions from your managers, HR, or the CEO about how to go about a topic. In the bottom line, if you find yourself in need of support from your employer, not only will you be denied this support, but you can also face cold, emotionless decisions that only favor company benefits, completely ignoring employee well-being and mental health. My personal experience with this company indicates that you cannot trust and rely on them as an adequate employer.

Pros

there is not a single thing

Cons

I worked under a newly promoted team lead who was assigned to replace the former Head of Department. Instead of hiring someone with actual leadership experience, the company chose to promote another team lead—someone without any background in managing teams. She tends to follow whatever direction the newly appointed director gives her, without question or strategy, simply because she lacks the experience to lead independently. Having spent four years at Metro may give her familiarity with the company, but it does not equate to being qualified to lead a team effectively. As a result, the team dynamics have significantly deteriorated. It's clear the company prioritizes cost-cutting over competence, expecting one person to do the work of ten without adequate support or compensation. Unfortunately, this toxic environment is driven by insecurity among underqualified individuals who feel threatened by capable team members. In a healthier organization, many of them including Janna and Amruta would likely struggle to secure similar roles based on merit. Yet at Metro, they are rewarded with promotions. If you're fortunate, you'll find a way out of this dysfunctional setup and you will find smart people that inspire each other !
