Pros

- Deals shared in meetings were interesting - Lots of opportunities to network and there are a few people in the network who legitimately want to help - Learn a lot about the exclusive venture capital world

Cons

- Nights, weekends and travel are expected but not discussed. Be sure to ask about this in the interview. - 0 training and unrealistic expectations - largely due to not knowing best practices - like reconciliations - Ran just like the chaotic startups they funded. No documentation for any process (or code) - Spend a lot of time in meetings and management's answer to requesting overtime was a salaried position with no bump in pay - Low staff accountant pay for Controller level duties

Pros

This is a good place to work if you like being part of a small team that works very closely together, and you align with the firm's culture and the leader's values and opinions. MCN offers a solid foot in the door for career seekers looking for opportunities in venture capital investing -- especially if you want to stay in or move to Michigan.

Cons

Spend time getting to know the leadership and staff before accepting a job at MCN. You'll feel like an outsider if you don't mesh well with the close-knit team. Leadership does not welcome differing opinions and can be demanding, so be prepared to tow the company line to advance.
