Not worth your trouble - Bar Supervisor Milky Lane Employee Review

Some of the staff were nice, kitchen staff were lovely.

Despite having over 37 hours scheduled for the next week, on the Sunday, the day before my next shift, I was told I had not passed my probation period and not to come into my shifts. Not only was a probation period never mentioned during the two and a half weeks I worked there, but this news was a shock as I had received only good feedback. I went from having 6 shifts scheduled for that week to none with less than 24 hours notice till I was supposed to be in. Upon asking to discuss this, I was told that they simply had to let some people go as they didn’t have enough hours for people. I am aware that a few other people were let go at the same time, all without ample warning. This is frankly disrespectful and not a way to treat your staff as I had turned down other job offers while working there and suddenly was left with no job. While working there some of the managers were not ideal to work with and lacked good communication, further they pushed us to get good reviews but didn’t give more training and also expected us to rush customers to open up tables. They would also roster you for shifts but send you home, sometimes hours early, if they felt like they were overstaffed. This is understandable but happened far too often, so they should have simply rostered the correct number rather than wasting peoples time coming in for short shifts. All around, it was a pretty standard hospitality job where you are a bit overworked, but they are happy to fire their casual staff in a heartbeat showing they truly don’t value their employees.
