Pros

-good if you want to specialize (trauma, neuro, speciality ICU etc) -my specific manager is good and advocates for her nurses when the staffing is horrendous -Chick Fil A served a few times a week in the cafeteria

Cons

-staffing is usually awful. We start the day off fully staffed and end up floating at least 2-4 nurses every single shift. Lots of travelers because nobody wants to stay -pay for PT and PRN not up to par. I work PRN, there was recently a pay increase for full time staff but not PT or PRN. A new grad RN will make more hourly than me at this point (I have 7.5 years of nursing experience and 5 of ICU) -lack of ancillary staff makes work load a lot more for primary nurses

Pros

Great nurses, resilient community, many leadership growth opportunities, large hospital with many specialties, the only level 1 trauma center in WNC.

Cons

The hours are very challenging. often 5am to 6pm M-F. No additional compensation for extra hours, nights, or on-call weekends. You must love the work, and have minimal need for work-life balance to enjoy working here.
