Pros

Staff is fun. However there is so much turnover you have to continually get to know new coworkers. No one stays past a year or two.

Cons

Just don’t. I started here as a new grad in the ER in 2021. It was awful then. I left a month ago. All I wanted was to get out of there. No staff and the census doesn’t change. You could have 2 intubated patients, the other 2 on drips.. and they still ask you to take hall beds. It is tan poorly. Nurse leaders are fun and somewhat supportive but above them there is no care for their staff. A year in, I was one of the “elders”. That is not how it should be. Patient safety and nurse safety is not a concern. It’s all about the numbers and money to HCA. Who cares about 9 hour average wait times and patients actually coding in the waiting room

Pros

Great nurses, resilient community, many leadership growth opportunities, large hospital with many specialties, the only level 1 trauma center in WNC.

Cons

The hours are very challenging. often 5am to 6pm M-F. No additional compensation for extra hours, nights, or on-call weekends. You must love the work, and have minimal need for work-life balance to enjoy working here.
