Pros

As a remote contract test preparation materials writer, I feel valued and appreciated; I communicate primarily through their project management system with an editor/project manager who provides detailed feedback and edits on my work that are thoughtful and helpful. They are very specific to the project so this isn't just generic copyediting but actual developmental edits on your work. For the holidays, they sent a holiday gift to writers that was particularly classy, a gift box of fancy crackers, cheeses, and sausages. (I've never had an employer, let alone a contract employer, send something like this, and it was a nice touch!) Pay is per project, with a fixed rate set based on the amount of work, so if you work quickly the pay can be pretty decent. They disallow writing with AI, wanting to focus on hiring actual writers to write their materials, which is rather refreshing in this current economy. This is a good gig if you don't like talking on the phone or being on Zoom calls or having a lot of emails to keep track of since almost all communication is done through the project management system and there was only one brief phone call for an orientation to their system. Also, I see a lot of people criticizing the interview process for hiring, but basically, after I sent a resume, they mailed back some sample questions based on the project, which I answered, along with taking some assessments, which included a brief technology test along with an IQ-type test, which was very challenging, but you are not expected to get every question right, so I skipped about a third of the questions and still passed. I will reassure folks that they do not use the writing samples for the actual projects; I've had other contract employers that did use your writing samples from the interview process and then refused to pay you for them once hired (!) so I can reassure folks that this is not happening here. Also, pay comes through almost immediately, the most recent project I got paid within one day of completion!

Cons

Some tasks may take longer to complete than normal, and since you're paid a fixed rate, the pay can sometimes be lower than one might hope for.
