Pros

- Sharp co-workers; our hiring bar has remained fairly consistent - Large addressable market, as many analysts are fond of pointing out - Strong technology; Mongo is a proven quantity with world class applications built on top of it - Good product direction/roadmap; this is not a stagnant org lacking vision - Access to RSUs & ESPP, especially with recent upward stock movements - Health Benefits - Unlimited PTO - Diversity appears to be a meaningful company priority, which is laudable

Cons

This is a company that is sharply divided between Sales/Marketing/CS and everyone else (e.g. Eng, Product, etc.). The former has an expectation of high rates of attrition, with lower salaries, equity, and commensurate turnover. It is short-sighted and leaves many feeling they do not have a viable career path at Mongo. I believe there is significant under-investment in customer facing roles as we are not perceived as core value additive and aligned with the shareholder value model that dominates. This narrow-mindedness means we lose some of our most talented individuals to more forward thinking organizations with less conservative tendencies. Coupled with below market pay and conflicting/overlapping direction/OKRs means we often function in a shambolic manner, unable to achieve excellence across the board.

Business outlook

Pros

Supportive people, a strong culture, and meaningful flexibility are the biggest positives. I've had the chance to work with thoughtful colleagues who care about doing good work and helping each other succeed. There are solid opportunities to learn, build relationships across teams, and contribute in a way that feels impactful.

Cons

Workloads can be heavy during busy periods, and priorities can sometimes shift quickly (which is expected in growing companies)

Remote work and decent pay

Cons

Really depends on the team, however middle management needs to be addressed. Toxic culture that truly depends on who your manager is. Silent layoffs are made to seem "Performance-based", then job is re-posted at a reduced range. Proceed with caution and understand that HR is not your friend.
