Pros

Everyone I met was enthusiastic and friendly and I discovered that Mott MacDonald has a major presence in the energy industry, which had always been my big interest. Most of the projects I’ve worked on have been for power stations being built overseas which has meant many trips.

Cons

Just one month after joining I flew out to Dubai for a week as part of a team from the UK to help the design of a power and desalination plant. I’m currently working on the design and development of a biomass power station in the UK. Climate change and renewable energy is really big in the news at the moment so it’s exciting to know that people are taking notice of what I’m working on every day.

Early career experiences can really shape how people view the industry, so it is great to see you found the projects interesting during your internship. We also appreciate your honest feedback about quieter periods. Finding the right balance between giving interns meaningful work and managing project demands can be a challenge at times, and it is something we continue to work on to make sure placements feel engaging and valuable throughout. Thank you for sharing your experience and for the contribution you made during your internship in Boston.
