Mount Vernon Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We strive to ensure our employees have equal access to growth and development opportunities. The reality in the non-profit arena is that upward mobility is often limited {requires someone leaving} and highly competitive. To the extent possible, MVLA encourages that internal candidate’s notify HR of their interest in positions and attempts to ensure that they receive interviews for the positions they apply for.
We strive to provide fair wages and periodically MVLA conducts an extensive compensation evaluation to ensure that we are competitive and aligned with industry trends.

This was a very enjoyable experience at a well-functioning and well funded house museum and organisation.
Cons
There are a lot of departments, and I don't know how it is doing these days.

Pros
history
food discount
you can take guests to the estate for free
walking on the estate during your break
gift shop
Cons
awful management, unrealistic and unsafe work environment that exposes customer service employees to the elements. Multiple employees have gotten pneumonia from exposure, and an employee even died on the estate from getting hit by a tree a couple of years ago. I would never suggest working here with such low pay, and they keep almost everyone on part time so they don’t have to give bennies.
