Any future Account Manager with this business would do well to familiarise themselves with the companies Vision, Mission and Values. My personal experience with these values are listed below, provided purely as an observation during my tenure which may assist others in the future when looking for questions to ask this business during an interview Customer Success: Address customer complaints only to the extent necessary to prevent dissatisfaction and ensure that customers are motivated to pay their invoices. While the notion of customer success may be discussed, it is often secondary to other business priorities, and there may be a lack of concrete metrics to measure it effectively. Ownership: In customer-facing roles, the expectation is to take personal responsibility for every aspect of the customer experience, from order details to delivery. When issues arise, it’s up to you to fix them. Essentially, if something goes wrong, it's your problem to solve. Productivity: Focus on administrative tasks and fulfilling reporting requests, regardless of how you achieve it. While sales are part of the role, the emphasis is often on maintaining the appearance of productivity. Support all initiatives and follow up on every lead to maintain this appearance. Team Dynamics: Success tends to favour those aligned with leadership and conforming to the established rules. Questioning or challenging the status quo might not be welcomed, and it's often best to follow the rules unless directed otherwise by those in charge. Innovation: Being innovative is valued, but don’t expect significant recognition or rewards for your efforts. If you encounter obstacles, consider reaching out to available support services, though their effectiveness might vary. Professionalism: Maintain a veneer of civility while managing the complexities of a potentially disorganised and challenging work environment. The goal is to navigate these issues discreetly and avoid drawing unnecessary attention. Personal Development: Your personal growth is often used as a metric to evaluate how well you’re meeting job expectations. It's a strategic way to track performance and keep you aligned with predefined goals. These principles, while they may seem somewhat disillusioned, reflect the reality of working within the given business framework. Recognising these dynamics up front can help you manage expectations and navigate the workplace more effectively.
