Pros

It was a federal job with benefits that most interns anywhere don't have the privilege of receiving like paid holidays and sick days. I learned a lot about the bureaucratic nature of our government. The closeout center dealt with final documents of research grants.

Cons

The job was not at all challenging and could be handled by anyone with a high school diploma. I did not learn anything new at the job except for a basic overview of how the NIH operates. It was terribly boring and most employees were unproductive.

Pros

Working with the some of the smartest scientists and clinicians in the world. So many learning opportunities. Kind patients. Allowed time to care for patients as there is no pressure of quotas by health insurance.

Cons

Nursing management can be verbally abusive with frequent retaliation and intimidation. As most older nurses have worked there for most of their career, they are dismissive of new perspectives and resistant to evidence-based practice.
