Pros
Decent work-life balance except close to major deadlines Casual workplace, people are generally friendly Benefits are pretty good Engineering managers (at the lower level) are generally experienced and actually care about their employees
Cons
Culty vibes. The amount of times they say "we're a family" is absolutely insane. Yes, many executives are actually family, but you're just a line item on a budget to said executives. Make no mistake, they'll take away your livelihood the second you are an inconvenience to the company. They are no better than any other similarly sized employer in that regard. Pay is subpar for engineers. Granted, cost of living is low as well, but you can find better offers in similar cost of living areas. Lack of promotions. The only way to get promoted is to leave for a new company in my experience. I saw many young engineers leave after 2-3 years when they got annoyed that they weren't getting promoted. I don't think I ever saw a single engineer get promoted. It's generally a mix of very experienced engineers and fresh grads, not a lot in between. They also hire a lot of offshore contractors instead of investing in their own employees, probably because they can get away with paying them less. They're still pinching pennies like crazy to recover from 2018 bankruptcy, which makes sense but leads to some more problems. I think this is the root cause of the low pay/no promotions. Sketchy long-term outlook in my opinion. They're probably 1-2 botched projects away from being in their death throes.
