Pros

They are in the process of starting a union!!

Cons

I have watched the people who have been fighting for a union be actively retaliated against. When bringing up laboratory safety, people are retaliated against. Whistleblowers are "dramatic and making problems" due to unsafe working environments. In entry level labs, most staff have a full time job at NSF, along with many people continuing their education, and more than 75% working a "side hustle" or part time job. When bringing safety concerns up about people being exhausted and overworked, management will gaslight employees, stating that those bringing it up are lying or are too busy spending their money partying and don't deserve a raise. Friendly reminder that as of 26October2023, you can't even RENT a single room in Washtenaw county for under $1000. That is the average two week paycheck for a technician in the labs. Technicians are regularly using food banks to make ends meet and management shrugs it off.

Pros

The most supportive place I've ever worked. From my coworkers to the management team, I am continously grateful for this positive, collaborative work environment.

Cons

I have nothing negative to say about working here. NSF is high on my list of blessings in my life.

Pros

Work is interesting, people are great except for senior leadership. Work can be monotonous but there is opportunity for some cross training which helps; middle management is great for the most part

Cons

Pay is below average for industry and there is a huge range in pay for people doing the exact same work; promotions are difficult to receive - we shouldn't have to interview for promotions. Employees should have the opportunity to be promoted just based off merit and experience; "hybrid" work model forced upon employees when jobs can be done remotely; lack of care for employees from senior leadership
