Pros

Great benefits and discounted tuition for employees or dependents. The company puts a lot of thought and money into their annual summer party and holiday gingerbread house contest, both of which can be fun opportunities to meet employees from other divisions.

Cons

Overall, the highly political and negative environment had a bad impact on my experience. Advancement is difficult. Management openly favors employees with PhDs or MDs while speaking poorly of employees without academic credentials. Unfortunately in-fighting and back-biting are deeply ingrained in the culture. Upper management speaks a lot about core values but fails to demonstrate values in day to day operations.

Pros

I found the NYU Child Study Center to be a welcoming, positive environment that was very professional. It was a great place to do an externship, as the staff really looked after us and made us feel part of the team both in the office and out in the field. I had a lot of fun, learned a tremendous amount, received ample mentoring, and shared many laughs.

Cons

I didn't really have much to complain about... the organization was well run. I'm not sure that the experience would have been the same had I been on staff. There seemed to be some internal politicking going on, however I was completely sheltered from that.
