Nanyang Polytechnic

Is this your company?

Bad culture is apparent, and it comes from the top :( - Senior Lecturer Nanyang Polytechnic Employee Review

Pros

Good structure driven by the government of Singapore. Wide spectrum of courses and caters to diverse groups of students.

Cons

It is very clear, from your interviews that the lecturers are burnt out, forced to be put into a box and denied growth opportunities. Once you understand how senior management behaves and hires, it's easy to understand why. They look out for junior lecturers who are easy to fit into their system of subservience, so that the management team at the top continues to thrive with minimal effort. Show any hint of anti-establishment, and prepared to face wrath from the top. Do a few interviews with different polytechnics in Singapore, and you would realise how different the toxic culture is at NYP. It's unfortunate because there are good people at the lower ranks, who would forever be left behind because of bad culture coming from the top. Wake up people. Do your part for the future generation and stop this self-serving bs.

Pros

Trauma-bonding with colleagues who will become great friends outside of work (and cheap food).

Cons

Tldr; Leadership at every level loves to enable each other’s bad habits. Deadlines invented overnight? Rules that apply to some but not all? Expect double standards, favouritism, false urgency. The list goes on. On the surface, these people will convince you that they seek change and strive to try new things. Liars.
