Pros

A few good people left in the company

Cons

I have worked at Neo4j for the last four years. I have never in my career seen a company go downhill so fast. What used to be a fun, trustworthy and inclusive environment is now toxic. I actively saw the enthusiasm and passion be drained from employees during this past year. New management regularly talks badly behind employee's backs and every department points fingers and blames someone else for their problems. They blamed the layoffs on outside macroeconomic factors, but yet they are now backfilling for those positions that they laid off. The layoffs were just a way to get rid of more tenured employees to make room for managements friends. If it was not for the current market, I would have left this position a while ago.

Tough review to read, and so sorry this was your experience. You're right though, Neo4j is no longer a purely Swedish company, as have been headquartered in San Mateo California for quite some time. What makes a company special is not just being "Swedish", but rather holding on the special things from our roots, and ensuring they are carried on as we grow. As you know, we have a grassroots 40+ person "Culture Initiative" which is a global team of employees, not HR sponsored, who meet regularly to ensure what is at the core of Neo4j, is not lost as we grow. Much of that comes from our Swedish roots. So sorry to hear that you weren't feeling a part of that. We encourage everyone to join this group, and if you have strong opinions - we would LOVE to hear them, directly! Thanks for taking the time to post. -Kristin
