Pros

- Work with good, passionate people - People care about the product they put out - Sense of camaraderie about the work being done - If you know who to go to with ideas and a plan, it's possible that you can make it happen

Cons

- Changes in management and scope led to long-term goals being neglected or changed - Shortcuts made in the name of getting a fix out faster or a goal done sooner leads to a lot of unmanaged tech debt - Immediate newsroom needs or pivots take 100% priority over any long-term tech strategy, leading to delayed or abandoned projects

Pros

Challenging and rewarding work. You'll work in an environment that publishes the news everyday, if you are excited about helping people learn more about the world, you'll love it here. Good benefits, hybrid work, and really smart coworkers.

Cons

Does not pay like big tech but as an IC you'll be part of union with job protections
