Pros

If there is a match with your values, Nexapp might be the kind of mythical company that is as good in real life as on paper. It is impossible for a company to satisfy every type of personality out there, but this might fit yours. * Practises what it preaches. The image of the company is built one word: quality. This started as quality in the codebase and allowing developers to build the best software possible, but spans throughout all departments today. Translates in continuous improvement on all fronts and not settling for the status quo. * Great work/life balance. You get the expected amount of vacation days for a tech company in Quebec, and there is no strict schedule enforced by the company. * Remote friendly, but still has an office in Quebec City from pre-covid. There are no requirements to go to the office, and a majority of the company is now remote only, but if you do want to go to the office, it is still available. Office expansion plans from pre-covid have been put on hold for now and are being re-evaluated. * Decent salaries and generous salary increases. Company is bootstrapped, so don't expect FAANG or VC-funded startup salaries, but you'll still be well compensated. Expect bi-annual salary adjustments that exceed inflation and are often in double-digits. * Stable financial-wise with no history of firings or downsizing. Diversification in terms of revenu streams by building a software product and not only relying on variable services revenue. The looming recession is not a concern for the moment. * Following the previous point, the company is transparent about everything. Quarterly updates with all employees where they share the health of the company, the financials, the business strategy and more. * While dependent on the exact project you'll work on (see below), the tech stack is modern and experiments with new technologies are not uncommon. * A large amount of trust is given to everybody by default, and the company has your back in your relationship with your client/project. No micro-management. * Involved in the local development community and invests in new talents heavily (great place for new grads). * Everybody is genuinely nice to work with, knowledgeable and cares about helping others. Great work environment, but finding the right team fit is still important.

Cons

* Mainly a services company. You won't know exactly what project you'll work on beforehand, or what stack you'll be working in will be. You are vulnerable to the clients will and desires. Projects can abruptly end, but you'll be moved to another project. * Following the previous point, you're more likely to become a generalist more than a specialist. Might be a pro or a con for you. * Most of the projects/clients lack a big *scale*. You won't find the technical challenges that come with projects that have a large user base or critical business components, but you also won't get the on-call requirements that can come with such projects. * Participating in other activities/projects outside of your main work is implicitly and explicitly required for a fast career growth. You will have an easier time justifying and negotiating bigger salary increases if you can point to things you've done/worked on outside of just your main work. Note that this not mean *unpaid* extra work; but you'll need to balance these extra activities with your main work. * French is absolutely required and there is no change on that front in sight. All the operations are in French, but there are some clients that communicate in English. Makes company growth more limited and might impact lead generation.

Pros

Really strong software engineering practices. You’ll work with highly talented people and grow professionally every week. The culture is very positive, with a strong focus on maintaining a healthy work‑life balance and creating an enjoyable, supportive work environment.

Cons

The office is located close to a highway and an industrial area, which makes the surroundings less pleasant than a more central or green location.
