Professional Growth Undermined by Poor Management - Photojournalist Nexstar Media Group Employee Review

Pros

Collaborative team environment with helpful coworkers. I gained valuable experience shooting, editing, and producing content independently. I worked all shifts, including weekends, and regularly turned VO/SOTs and full packages under deadline: great hands-on learning and fast-paced newsroom culture.

Cons

The offboarding process lacked clarity, professionalism, and discretion. Notice periods were not always honored, and in some cases, personnel were released early and misclassified in internal systems. This type of handling can lead to administrative complications and a diminished sense of respect for prior contributions. Additionally, some communications around departures were conducted publicly, creating an unnecessarily uncomfortable environment.

Pros

I think your enjoyment with this company comes entirely from the local team you work with. My team is GREAT - For our size, we're a very high performing station in the company and the best in our market. The sales department has its hiccups but works really well together when it matters most. If you're aiming for career growth you need to be strategic with what position you start in. Pay sucks at first but you get an annual raise and I've gotten multiple performance raises (I've worked here for 5 years and I'm making almost 13k more than when I started). Work life balance totally depends on your job. - Health insurance - Great (specialized) experience - Local station recognition - Pretty stable employment (in the sales department, at least)

Cons

- Layoffs in other departments - Corporate decisions make work much harder fort he people these decisions affect - Acquisition of Tegna - PTO policy could really use a change (especially for Holidays)
