Work Hard, Play Hard, Expect Conflict - Game Developer Nitro Games Employee Review

Pros

There's flexibility in working from home or office. Dogs in both locations. The second office is in a decent city location with great restaurants nearby. Weekly meetings with anonymous feedback, and monthly CEO sessions to ask your questions. When you get the opportunity to work in a team with trust and understanding, it makes a huge difference. You will learn things through practical experience. Though it may be tough, it is a useful way of getting the experience in.

Cons

I was advised by my doctor to leave the company as working there had taken its toll on my mental health. Bonuses and praise go to the same people. I have a list of names of developers who went beyond but were absent from these events. There is an unusually high degree of blame from upper management. There is often a huge amount of pressure with no help as everyone else working hard too on their own tasks. The risk of burn out is very real. Management pushes themselves on game projects without being involved in the every day meetings or without needed experience. They don't seem to understand the weight their presence has. Too many meetings. You will sometimes spend days doing nothing but meetings, and then working in the evening to get tasks done. Life/Work balance is promoted as one of the core pillars of the company, but you will receive messages after hours, weekends, and holidays.

Pros

The crew is very welcoming, young, energetic and family-like with bunch of great parties & afterwork activities. Both offices are great and in good locations. You get to see multiple projects and can always share your feedback with others. The company wants you to succeed and offers you opportunities to grow, expand your skillset and even change your career path. There is plenty to learn tech and project wise, which keeps you always busy and excited for the upcoming.

Cons

... but you really need to swim or you will sink. There is no onboarding really nor proper walkthrough of the company projects, roles, responsibilities nor your career path. You need to build it and you need to be able to demand what is yours. You need to make sure you keep your boundaries and work-life balance as your managers might ask you to bend more than once. Personally I believe they should change the way how they work, from top to down starting from management decision making processes to the values they say they cater; trust, honesty and openness are big words flying out often from managers mouths yet it does not happen in reality as much as they hope for. Sometimes it can be fighting over resources and each other rather than working together towards the shared goals. Often it felt very competitive between teams and even roles.
