Pros

Great career for people who are open to learning the job. easy 6+ figure job. I truly love it and really like my bosses and the heads of the company. My advice: Everyday be willing to learn and grow. Training and tools are always available to help new associates and funeral arrangers learn the business. Just need to have an open mind, good integrity, and willingness to learn. Have thick skin in sales especially, because there is a lot that goes on!

Cons

Office administration staff is never ever easy to work with, but you learn how to deal with them and stay on the course of success. Funeral arrangers always seem to not give the proper (easy) presentations to families as they are trained. But that's at every location I'm guessing?..

Pros

If you enjoy a mediocre work environment, disorganized management, no training, and your money being hijacked, this may be the place for you.

Cons

You spend most of your time helping families plan their loved one's interment for sales that happened prior to you working there. A lot of times paperwork is missing, and you may spend a couple of full days investigating to make sure everything is paid for, as you are put on a rotation. You are not just selling funerals and plots, but of course, this was never explained to me at all during the interview process. Also, you are charged a certain amount of points every week that you need to make up and they accumulate week after week. Then, when you do make a sale, those points are deducted from whatever sale you made maybe the week or so after, and you have to pay back that money. Essentially you are paying your own minimum wage if you did not make a sale. Management was extremely disorganized. There was zero professional decorum in the office, People spoke to each other vert badly, and some even made weird comments to families, especially one Funeral Arranger in particular.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We genuinely wish you well in your next chapter. We want to be transparent for anyone considering a role with us: NorthStar is a pay-for-performance organization. Our Family Service Advisors earn based on the value they create for the families they serve through a compensation structure that includes commissions and a draw, a model commonly used throughout professional sales organizations. This structure rewards consistency, effort, and results, and is designed for individuals who are motivated by goals, accountability, and the opportunity to directly influence their earnings. The role of a Family Service Advisor extends beyond sales alone. Advisors support families with advance planning and often assist with existing arrangements and services, helping ensure families receive the care and support they need during important moments. This work requires compassion, professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving others. We recognize that commission-based sales careers are not the right fit for everyone, and that's okay. We also take feedback regarding training, organization, and workplace experience seriously and continually look for ways to improve. Thank you again for sharing your perspective, and we wish you success in your future endeavors.
