Pros

People in Darlington and branches are really genuine, and hard working

Cons

- No sick pay - No strategy - No transparency- deliberately misleading/concealing information from staff, shareholders and customers - Completely hapless yet misplaced arrogant exec team - Revolving door on senior positions breeds fear and blame culture - Horrendous management culture of blaming staff for management mistakes - Absolute disdain for customers, not interested in their point of view (cancelled NPS survey and have implemented change programmes without consulting customers) and hell bent on ripping them off - Ever tumbling share price with no prospect of recovery - If recruited in Darlington your role is not safe, likely to be moved to Reading in the next 12 months - all the issues you’d associate with a start up with none of the agility to turn it round - Clown for a CEO - Spend money like water on recruitment and office space in the south - despite 25% dip in profit before tax reported in last results. Prefer to throw good money after bad than admit a bad idea or poor execution

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. All feedback on Glassdoor is taken very seriously whether it be from a current or former employee such as yourself. I am disappointed that you feel your experience of working at Northgate was so negative, however I do appreciate that the effects of change that come from a business transforming itself can never feel good to all of the people all of the time. We have created a commercial hub in Reading as a deliberate move to bolster digital, sales and marketing capability in particular. Reading has a high concentration of this type of talent as well as good access to the market of individuals with strong rental and auto experience. This has meant a number of roles and responsibilities have moved to Reading as we adapt the way we operate to be more commercial and serve our customers better. We took great pains to share as much information as and when we could with people directly affected by this move. The saying goes that the numbers don’t lie: our latest set of financial results showed that while rental margins remain under pressure right across our industry, and this is also true of Northgate, the changes we have made (some of which you refer to) have driven the key measure of vehicles on hire into growth in the UK for the first time in four years. Our share price has also increased by nearly fifty percent over recent months reflecting the increased confidence that investors have in our management team and how we are turning the UK business around. I am sorry once again for your negative experience, and I wish you all the very best for the future. Kevin Bradshaw

Pros

Pays the bills, Good BDM team.

Cons

Where to start….. Useless management. New business Team (order takers) get all the praise whilst the Account Managers do all the work. Commission structure is always tailored to New business. Paid in arrears and is always wrong, lucky if you do manage to sort it. Senior management are a waste of time, take it or leave it. Lost load of good people because of this attitude. No career progression, ones that do get promoted into seniors end up redundant. This seems to be a trend same thing every few years.
